Specialized IFS informed EMDR training for addiction treatment and relapse prevention

Journey Into Hope: IFS Informed EMDR for the Addiction Process and Relapse Prevention
Presented by Susan Brown, LCSW, BCD. This intermediate to advanced workshop explores the benefits of integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed procedures within the 8 phases of EMDR therapy for treating addictions and relapse prevention.
Course Description
This 6 hour intermediate to advanced workshop is intended for fully trained EMDR clinicians within any licensed discipline (Social Workers, MFTs, counselors, Ph.D., NP). The program explores the benefits of integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed procedures and interweaves in the treatment of addictions and compulsions within the 8 phases of EMDR therapy, with a focus on relapse prevention.
Addictions and other related maladaptive behavior patterns can leave people feeling shameful, out of control, trapped, and isolated; but chronic relapsing, which is so common to the addictive process, is deeply demoralizing. It often triggers hopelessness, self-loathing, and in some cases, overdose, and death. The way we understand the addictive cycle and relapse from a parts perspective helps organize treatment planning, preparation, and reprocessing (unburdening).
Workshop Goals
What's Included
Relapse prevention using this integrated model includes targeting and reprocessing past relapses, current relapse cycles triggered by cravings, maladaptive positive feeling states, overwhelming stress, and at times, unconscious processes.
Some knowledge of IFS is recommended but not required. Lecture, slides, numerous client videos, practice scripts, experientials, and handouts will demonstrate how this integration is used to treat the complex nature of addiction, relapse, and relapse prevention.
